Somewhere in the early 90's of the previous century when the era of online gaming was just about to come to life, a group of highschool friends laid the foundation for their future clan.
Starting with games like Doom, Wolfenstein and Quake these friends quickly found a common interest in gaming, while growing up and choosing different directions for future studies and careers.
By having frequent LAN-weekends, playing many hours online and visiting big LAN-parties this group of old friends stayed in touch for the many years to come.
When Battlefield1942 and it's popular mod Desert Combat were released in 2002, the at that time still active friends started looking for a fitting name for their group.
Finding no creativity in clantags with lots of symbols, they agreed to all take on names starting with the same word of a somewhat silly, funny meaning, but equally covering their view on gaming and life. The LeipeClan was born and all members came up with a nickname starting with Leipe (roughly translated: completely wacko and a nutcase in a fun way).
Once a website, forum, voiceserver and gameserver where activated, the LeipeClan started recruiting new members quickly growing in size. Starting with the original 8 friends the active roster kept steadily growing the next 2 years to about 25 to 30 members.
More gameservers were activated with larger slot-sizes giving the members more room to play, have fun, explore and train on skills. While the main goal was still having fun together, the need to play competions also increased, thus resulting in many fought clanwars on ladders at clanbase and esl.
One of the proud highlights in this period was the selection of 3 of our members for the national Desert Combat team.
The next couple of years the LeipeClan kept growing in member-size, increasing in skill-level while broading the spectrum of games to play. At it's peak during those "golden" years the LeipeClan had about 50 members playing different games in different competions with the clan offering atleast 4 or more servers for those games.
After reaching this peak the LeipeClan started getting divided by choosing Battlefield or Call of Duty resulting in slowly losing the fun to play together ending with a stop to all activities late 2008.
In 2010 some original members revived the LeipeClan, quickly filling it's roster with a mix of old and new members, getting multiple gameservers back online, joining ladders for our favorite games and thus regaining some of it's former glorious status.
Within the next couple of years slowly but sadly the game-industry and it's publishers started moving away from mod-support, dedicated servers and gamecommunities, followed by a just as slow but even more sad demise of worldwide clan-activity leaving us to where we are today...
Currently we have a small group of veterans still playing mostly military-themed games, frequently visiting one and another on our old, rusty and almost obsolete but still running like a *** ventrilo-server.
Additional information about the LeipeClan
We are an all Dutch clan with a small remaining active memberroster ranging in ages between 30 and 50. Although we no longer actively recruit new members, we are always open to meeting new friends who might eventually join our ranks.
Our roots can be found in the complete Battlefield-series with the sidenote that not all version are devoured equally. Currently we play the latest Battlefield released not as much as the older one because we think this latest release is not one of the strongest in the series.
Occasionally we broaden our horizon with other fun and interesting games in all sorts of genres, ending up mostly at military-themed and first-person-shooter games for longer periods of time. Call of Duty, Medal of Honor, Grand Theft Auto and Battlefront are series we often enjoy too while in the meantime following currently popular games like FortNite and PlayerUnknown's Battleground.
Momentarily some of our oldest members are playing World of Warships and World of Warplanes pretty extensive with some ferious dedication.
All our members can be easily identified by their name starting with "Leipe" or having the "[LEIP]"-clantag in a game whether it be played on Steam, Origin, U-Play or any other launcher. Simply searching for the term "Leipe" should be enough to find our members.
Contacting us nowadays only succeeds by joining our ventrilo-server and leaving a message in the global-chat there for our admins or staff, who are easily identified by their [Admin] and [Staff]-tags. They will usually reply within a day and assist you in resolving your questions. Since our admins and staff are not online every day of the week, a bit of patience might be in place. Be adviced that addressing questions to [Member], [Friend], [Bot], [DJ] or [Guest]-tags might not solve your problem. Adding LeipeMembers on Steam, Origin or any other gamelaunchers might get you in contact too.
Since our ancient ventrilo-server always has been and still is our primary meetingplace, we strongly advice owning and using a headset to get the best experience with the LeipeClan.
We no longer ask our members for a monthly fee and run our website and servers completely on donations. Support us by following this link:
Since the LeipeClan has only a small amount of active members, the number of servers maintained currently is low. In the past when some games were played intensively, we provided at least 1 public server for each of these games resulting in running up to 7 servers for 3 different games at one time. Even nowadays we still have the policy to try and provide servers for our members, depending on the dedication to a certain game and the financial consequences it might bring. Due to the fact that most publishers are giving less support to dedicated servers, it is increasingly getting harder to set up public servers these days. We regret this chosen path while proudly looking back to better days in the past, hoping the future policy on this matter will shift back to those more pleasant times....
At this moment we are running just 1 server which is our old rusty ventrilo-server, providing our communications and thus being our prime meetingplace. All information about this server and how to join is found below.
Our ventrilo-server is open to all guests, running client-version 3.0.8 with 75 slots. Recently our server became the nr.1 ventrilo worldwide! We use the highest quality codecs compatibel with Windows, IOS and Android to give the best experience. To join our server simply download ventrilo (version 3 not 4) and use ip and port provided above. A password is only needed once you have a registered account.
We provide several public rooms for guests, a couple of musical rooms for entertainment, some private rooms for regulars or friends and locked rooms for our members. Frequent visiting guests can apply for a private room by addressing this to our staff and admins in global chat which is, like the rest of the server, monitored by several bots to protect our users from harrassment. We have a fierce policy on disruptive behaviour and kick or ban without warning when neccessary!
All users are easily identified by a [tag] related to a ranking-system with inheritly increasing admin-rights. [Guest], [Regular] and [Friend] have none up to basic rights, where [Member], [Staff] and [Admin] have full control with the latter two being the one's to address questions to.
We urge all users to behave friendly and respectfully towards other users using some common sense on ethics.
Some simple guidelines the LeipeClan tries to live up to
Since we are an all Dutch clan, our native language is dutch! We DO however have friends from other European countries and use English as a second language.
We strongly DO advice the use of a good headset and a "push-to-talk"-key when joining our ventrilo-server.
When visiting here while meeting guests, friends or LeipeMembers we DO believe in good, friendly and mature behaviour towards eachother.
and DO NOT's:
We DO NOT support any form of cheating, hacking, harrassing, bullying or other disruptive behaviour.
Any mentioning or linking to illegal software or games we DO NOT allow.
The Principles of Life as Leipe:
Treat others the way you would like to be treated. Show respect for others. Be friendly and have an open mind.
Be thankful for the moment and cherish your time with friends, family and loved ones.
Remember we are all here to have fun!
